Vol à vide :Bangkok Suvarnabhumi: Thai Airways cuts strand 1,000+ transit passengers after floods

At the end of September 2026, Thai Airways cut large parts of its schedule at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) after floods across greater Bangkok kept ground and cabin staff from reaching the field. On 30 September, Airports of Thailand (AOT) told The Nation Thailand that the carrier cancelled about 75 flights and that more than 1,000 transit passengers were stuck in the transit area.

What travellers saw

AOT’s Suvarnabhumi general manager, quoted on Nation TV, described serious disruption for connections: passengers could not continue, while the airport and the Tourism Authority of Thailand distributed food and water in transit and looked for alternative seats. The same briefing said staff shortages after the floods also left a backlog of more than 5,000 bags on 30 September; later Thai coverage (Bangkok Post, The Nation) put the delayed-luggage pile closer to about 10,000 items accumulated from 26–28 September.

Bangkok Post later reported that cancelled Thai Airways flights fell from a peak of nearly 40 during the worst flooding to 15 then 9 as staff returned, with the airline saying it would resume a normal schedule from Saturday 3 October. Travellers who flew Thai Airways between 26 and 29 September were pointed to the airport delayed-baggage tracker. Always re-check the airline app: recovery of bags can lag restored departure boards.

If the schedule is critical

When a hub carrier scales back banks to catch up on ground handling, same-day BKK connections leave little slack. If you cannot wait for the next open seat, a private jet or empty leg can bypass airline recovery churn. Rahizi qualifies the brief and returns partner options.
