Vol à vide :Phoenix Sky Harbor: FAA ground stop as Saturday storms and dust hit the Valley

On the afternoon of Saturday 10 October 2026, a dust wall into the West Valley around 12:45 p.m. local time was followed by rain and thunderstorms that triggered an FAA ground stop into Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX). KTAR reported the stop had lifted but left a ground delay of about 168 minutes; by 3:30 p.m. the airport site showed roughly 227 flights delayed and two cancelled. FAA NAS trackers also listed a separate PHX ground stop later the same day citing staffing, after the thunderstorm hold. This is a new storm day after the mid- and late-September Phoenix stops already covered.

What travellers saw

National Weather Service Phoenix issued a dust storm warning with gusts near 45 mph before convective cells moved through. Remnants of Tropical Cyclone Rachel were expected to reinvigorate showers overnight into Sunday morning. When PHX is gated for weather, desert bank turns and connections compress quickly once the stop lifts into residual metering.

If the schedule is critical

If you cannot wait for the cells and residual delay program to clear, a private jet or empty leg into an alternate Arizona field may be workable once the airspace reopens. Rahizi qualifies the brief and returns partner options.
