Vol à vide :Phoenix Sky Harbor: FAA ground stops as Sunday rain, low ceilings and wind hit the Valley

On Sunday 1 November 2026, the FAA issued a ground stop for arriving traffic at Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) until about 10 a.m. MST for weather / low ceilings, after a rare wet Halloween weekend kept rain over the Valley. 12News and AZFamily reported the inbound hold from just before 9 a.m.; FAA Fly status later still showed a weather/low-ceilings traffic-management program holding departures destined to PHX until at or after 10 a.m., with airborne arrival delays of 15 minutes or less in that update. A second ground stop was then extended into the afternoon for departures to Sky Harbor until about 1:30 p.m. because of wind, according to 12News. This is a new Sunday rain / ceiling / wind wave after the 30 October thunderstorm ground stop already covered — not the same Friday cells.

What travellers saw

When PHX is held for ceilings and then wind, morning and midday banks stack and metering can linger after the first arrival window. NWS kept Flood Watch / heavy-rain messaging over metro Phoenix; check your carrier and the airport for individual flights rather than assuming the first stop was the last.

If the schedule is critical

If you cannot wait for the weather program and residual delays to clear, a private jet or empty leg into an alternate Arizona field may be workable once the airspace reopens. Rahizi qualifies the brief and returns partner options.
