Vol à vide :Houston IAH and Hobby: FAA thunderstorm ground stops hit Bush and HOU

On Tuesday 3 November 2026, the FAA posted thunderstorm ground stops for arriving traffic at both Houston passenger hubs: George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) from about 1807Z to 1930Z and William P. Hobby (HOU) from about 1809Z to 1930Z, according to FAA NAS Status. The Houston Chronicle reported the dual stop. Later the same afternoon, NAS Status still showed IAH departure delays averaging about 60 minutes and increasing for weather/thunderstorms, with a planning window keeping a further IAH/HOU ground stop or delay program possible until 2300Z. This is a new weather wave — not the 13 October IAH fiber-optic cable ground stop already covered.

What travellers saw

When Bush and Hobby are both held for storms, inbound banks from across the U.S. and Latin America can stack at origin, and residual departure delay at IAH can linger after the first stop window. Check your carrier and airport boards before leaving for the terminal; a short ground stop does not mean the rest of the evening runs on time.

If the schedule is critical

If you cannot absorb a thunderstorm hold into Houston, a private jet or empty leg into another Texas field may be workable once the cells clear. Rahizi qualifies the brief and returns partner options.
