On the morning of Friday 11 September 2026, Sydney Airport saw cancellations and delays after Airservices Australia activated temporary Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) because of an air traffic controller shortage.

What happened

According to Reuters and the agency, roster constraints and unplanned absences forced ATFM to safely manage aviation demand. The measures were lifted around 8:15 a.m. local time; delays of about 10 minutes were still expected later that morning.
