London airports \u2014 <strong>Heathrow<\/strong> and <strong>Gatwick<\/strong> in mind \u2014 have seen rare takeoffs, chain delays and cancellations. The fallout went beyond London: several British platforms and European flights were hit.<\/p>\n<h2>What happened<\/h2>\n<p>In the early afternoon, very few aircraft left London airports. According to   L2  , about <strong>200 flights<\/strong> were already canceled, a figure expected to rise.   L15   counted close to <strong>90 cancellations<\/strong> related to   L8   and   L11   around 4:15 p.m.   L9   and   L5   were also among the most exposed platforms.<\/p>\n<p>L16   first reported a technical problem on departures, then reported having identified the origin: its <strong>flight processing system<\/strong>. The engineers were on site. The airspace remained open, flights continued to depart, but the return at a normal rate was to take \"some time,\" according to the organization.<\/p>\n<h2>Reactions by airports and airlines<\/h2>\n<p>L8   has returned passengers to their company for flight status.   L0   spoke of limited disruptions and contact with its customers.   L12   referred to more than <strong>65 000 passengers<\/strong> delayed and about 50 flights cancelled.   L13   reported effects on links across Europe.   L6   specified that some aircraft destined for the United Kingdom were held out of the country, with possible disruptions until evening.<\/p>\n<h2>Beyond London<\/h2>\n<p>Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Belfast also reported difficulties. Belfast City spoke of \"some disturbances\"; Birmingham and Edinburgh advised to follow company instructions. The British network is interconnected: an incident   L16   spreads quickly to regional hubs and arrivals in continental Europe.<\/p>\n<h2>A folder already sensitive for   L16<\/h2>\n<p>The companies recall that this is the <strong>third major incident<\/strong> in just over three years \u2014 after the August 2023 arrest and a \"isolated incident\" a year earlier.   L12   requested the resignation of the Director General   L3  ;   L4   called the episode a scandalous failure.   L10   found it unacceptable that a critical infrastructure operator could repeatedly block the British air system.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Transport   L1   indicated that she was informed, confirmed that the breakdown was identified and that the technicians were working to resolve it, while acknowledging the frustration of the passengers.<\/p>\n<h2>What it changes for an urgent trip<\/h2>\n<p>When commercial air control slows down, slots condense, matches fall and lines lengthen.
