KTAR reported the inbound ground stop for surrounding zones from about <strong>11 a.m. to noon<\/strong> local time, with average departure delay near <strong>60 minutes and rising<\/strong> by 11:30 a.m. The Sky Harbor site listed <strong>212 delayed<\/strong> upcoming flights and <strong>two cancellations<\/strong> at 11 a.m.; FlightAware showed about <strong>291 delays<\/strong> and <strong>three cancellations<\/strong> by 11:30 a.m. Later FAA NAS status still showed a thunderstorm ground stop into the early afternoon (centers including ZLA, ZHU, ZFW, ZDV, ZOA, ZKC, ZAB) with departure delay peaking near <strong>75 minutes<\/strong> before residual gate\/taxi and airborne delays eased to <strong>15 minutes or less<\/strong>. This is a <strong>new Friday storm wave<\/strong> after the 22 October thunderstorm GDP already covered.<\/p>\n<h2>What travellers saw<\/h2>\n<p>When PHX is held for thunderstorms, midday banks stack quickly and departure metering can keep building after the first stop window.
